Visit the James River Plantations

A day trip excursion

While visiting Williamsburg, Virginia, take a day trip to the James River Plantations. Full of rich history and strategically located between the James and Chickahominy Rivers, these plantations offer a day filled with history! The county of Charles City was the first westward expansion of English-speaking America.

Established in 1619, the plantations and farms along the James River have withstood the test of time, surviving the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the War Between the States. Today, you can witness this resilience firsthand as you visit and tour the county’s manor homes, all privately owned and preserved.

We recommend adding the following activities to your Williamsburg itinerary:

"Billy and Sharon are fonts of local information and history. They really helped us make the best use of our time."
