What’s New to Williamsburg in 2020!

Happy New Year! We’re excited for another beautiful year here in Colonial Williamsburg, and even though it’s a town that cherishes its history, there are always new developments on the horizon. Things are changing to make your stay even more refreshing, informative, and enjoyable. Even if you visited just last year, here are a few reasons, dare we say excuses, to come back and experience it in 2020!

ENJOY NOW!

You might have heard the buzz about the new illy Caffè on Duke of Gloucester Street. It’s a European-style coffee shop offering unique flavors in petite ceramics, plus fresh croissants and paninis. It’s the cutest new addition to Merchants Square!

Cafe, barista making coffee

Look just across the street to see what’s up and coming. Although we’ll miss our Williams-Sonoma store, which is closing in just a few weeks, it begs the question, “What’s next?” With so many new ideas bringing life to Williamsburg, we can’t wait to see what happens in this lot by the end of the year.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT…

CW is under new management! As of January 1st, Cliff Fleet has become the ninth CEO of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. We’re so looking forward to how things will shift as new opportunities are explored, especially as we approach the nation’s 250th anniversary and the foundation’s centennial in 2026. Be on the lookout for upcoming surprises.

Pantheon, the newest roller coaster

For all you thrill-seekers out there, you won’t want to miss the unveiling of Pantheon, the newest roller coaster coming this summer to Busch Gardens. It will be the world’s fastest multi-launch coaster, complete with a 95° drop, a height of 180 feet, and a record-breaking top speed of 73 mph. It’s bound to be a game-changer!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS…

You may have noticed the ongoing construction just off of Henry Street, and we’re here to tell you that the wait is almost over! The Dewitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Art Museum expansion are set to be unveiled in April of this year. The new addition will provide more gallery space and will improve accessibility all around the museum.

Front of the museum at twilight, new entrance coming soon

BIG news: Tuesday, April 28 the Antiques Roadshow is coming to Williamsburg! Whether you have an item you to bring to the show or simply want a close-up look, you can get tickets now through February 19. In a town so chock-full of history, we can only imagine the show CW will make!
