And while this year certainly looks a little different, we love being right in the heart of Williamsburg, where there are still so many ways to enjoy this season. Today we’ve compiled 12 great cozy activities that you can enjoy (socially distanced, of course) through the end of 2020 and beyond. We’ve even included some holiday cheer, so let’s get started!
GET A LITTLE HISTORY:
-If you enjoy learning about the rich history all around the Williamsburg area, check out the new “Fall Into History” program at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. This interesting new offer combines socially distanced, in-person educational programs and virtual learning activities, plus access to a guided tour with a museum educator. It will run November 9-20, and at $13 per family, you really can’t beat this deal to experience both amazing sites and museums!
-And if you’re a foodie in search of Ye Olde Williamsburg Recipes, why not spend Thanksgiving dinner in Jamestown? Or check out their Foods & Feasts of Colonial Virginia that Friday and Saturday, November 27-28. Learn and experience firsthand the work and culinary practices that were part of creating such a feast in 17th and 18th century Virginia.
REFRESH AND RELAX
-Join us at our Williamsburg bed and breakfast and spend your Saturday morning strolling through the Williamsburg Farmers Market, now in a new location for the holidays! Whether you’re looking for groceries, a weekend breakfast, or just checking out all the local goods, it’s such a relaxing way to enjoy an autumn morning.
-We’re so excited to finally anticipate another 2nd Sundays festival, just in time for the perfect fall weather! Local artisans, musicians, and entertainers will line Boundary Street (just outside our door!) once again in this cherished monthly festival of the arts. Stay with us and have your home base right in the heart of it!
-You can’t go wrong with the Spa at Colonial Williamsburg to relax and refresh. With so many different services, from massage to skin care, plus rejuvenating practices from centuries past, you can enjoy a cozy pampering right around the corner from the Inn.
TAKE A TOUR
-Enjoy the beautiful fall weather with a guided walking tour of Williamsburg, perfect whether you’re a first-timer to the area or a CW expert! There’s always something new to see as you learn about the history of Williamsburg, and with the turning foliage in the background, there’s really nothing better.
-Not feeling the walk? Head into historic Yorktown for a group tour on a segway! This fun little outing is always just as fun as it is beautiful, and just a short drive up the Colonial Parkway.
-If you’re the adventurous type, or maybe just want to make your day a bit more unstructured, just download the Colonial Williamsburg Explorer App to your phone. It’s your own personal guide to all the historic sites in the area, as well as museums and events, so you have all the tools you need for a quiet autumn weekend in Williamsburg.
CELEBRATE THE SEASON (Christmas in Williamsburg!)
-We always anticipate the annual appearance of the Liberty Ice Pavilion in Merchants Square, and this year you can look for it starting November 20! More ticketing information is forthcoming, but we’re happy that this holiday must-do is still returning this year.
-Experience a little holiday history with A Christmas Night at the Art Museums here in Colonial Williamsburg. On select nights in November and December musicians, storytellers, and interpreters will guide you through holiday songs and traditions from 17th century Virginia to today, all within the stunning art collections.
-If you’ve even been able to see Williamsburg at Christmastime before, you know that the streets are decked out with an abundance of homemade wreaths, garlands, and fragrant natural decoration. If you’re interested in seeing the best of the best, check out this Christmas Decorations Walking Tour to see it all and learn a bit about 18th century Christmas traditions along the way.
-Finally, we would be remiss without mentioning our beloved local theme park. This year’s event looks a little different but Busch Gardens’ Christmas Celebration is sure to be a treasure. Increased safety measures have made availability a little limited, but if you’re in town for the holidays, this is definitely an experience to look into!
There you have it, our favorite cozy and season events to enjoy through the end of the year. There may be no better time to experience the beauty of this historic place, and there’s certainly no better place to stay than with us at the Fife and Drum Inn. We’re a short walk from most of the things on this list, and ensure a relaxing and enjoyable stay. And if you need help with Christmas shopping, why not give the gift of a getaway with our gift certificates! We can’t wait to see you this holiday season, be well and stay safe!
