Amtrak’s Northeast Regional – Connecting the Eastern Seaboard by Rail

One version of our famous state motto – Virginia Is For Train Lovers – rings true. The history of train travel in Williamsburg stretches back generations. Prior to the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg,
there was even a train line down Duke of Gloucester Street! Over the decades, the rail network expanded to include all the coastal states between Virginia and Massachusetts. Known today as the Northeast Regional train, you can travel from as far away as Boston directly to Williamsburg, all while relaxing on a train rather than contending with traffic down I-95. Prices on the Northeast Regional vary depending on where you hop on board. A ticket from Penn Station in downtown New York to Williamsburg averages around $100 for the 8-hour journey.

Snag a window seat and take in the incredible scenery as the train winds through rural New Jersey and the beautiful stretches of Maryland and Virginia. The Northeast Regional begins in Boston and passes through all the major cities en route, making it easy to get on board at any point if you are traveling to Williamsburg from Philadelphia, Baltimore, or Washington, D.C.

The Northeast Regional train has several cars on each trip, including a quiet car, where you can take a power nap or get some work done on your laptop. The popular cafe car is convenient for getting a tasty snack or a cocktail from their extensive menu. Another added perk is that bikes are free, with a reservation, so tote your bike and cruise around on the numerous Williamsburg bike paths and trails during your stay.

The Amtrak train will drop you off at the Williamsburg Transportation Center. The train depot’s construction dates back nearly a century. It is a perfect welcome to Williamsburg's architecture, pays homage to the area’s roots, and fits with the historical sites around town.

After dropping your luggage at our B&B, head out and explore Williamsburg— by foot or by renting a bike for a leisurely experience. Colonial Williamsburg, with its world-class museums, daily programs diving into American history, and authentic colonial-era taverns, are at our doorstep. Either explore the historic area on foot or hop on one of the Colonial Williamsburg shuttles, which circle the Historic Area.

Step back in time with an all-encompassing experience of life centuries ago, when colonial history, drama, and culture played out in real-time in Williamsburg.

Book your Bed & Breakfast in Williamsburg — you can travel here by train and venture back into history all in one trip!
